A New York City native, Dr. Paul M. Glat grew up in White Plains, New York. After graduating cum laude from Princeton University in 1984, Dr. Glat attended medical school at New York University (NYU) where he served as class president and went on to complete extensive post-graduate training in general surgery. Dr. Glat then received advanced training at NYU’s Institute of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, considered to be one of the finest organizations of its kind in the world. Part of this training took place at Manhattan Eye and Ear Hospital which provided him additional opportunities to learn from and work with some of the foremost leaders in the field of plastic surgery.
Dr. Glat then expanded his focus and expertise to include reconstructive surgery for children. Upon completing a craniofacial surgery fellowship at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Glat joined the staff at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children and began leading the Division of Plastic Surgery. Dr. Glat has been the Chief of Plastic Surgery and the Director of the Burn Unit at St. Christopher’s Hospital since 1998, where he has taken care of over 3,000 burned children. He has become an internationally renowned burn and wound care expert, having done extensive clinical research and published many papers on burns and burn care, and is sought after as a speaker on many topics. Dr. Glat’s experience led to him being asked to take over and coordinate the John A Boswick Burn and Wound Care Symposium every February in Maui, Hawaii.
Dr. Glat is consistently in demand as a guest lecturer at plastic and reconstructive surgery meetings and has presented his original work all over the United States as well as in South America, Europe, India and Australia. Dr. Glat is a Professor of Surgery at Drexel University College of Medicine where he teaches residents and medical students, and his writings and research have appeared in several major plastic surgery textbooks and over 50 plastic surgery publications. Dr. Glat has also been featured on ABC and NBC News.
